The emissions test performed on your vehicle is determined by its model year and equipment (drive type, traction control, etc.). One type is an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) test. The OBD system monitors performance of light duty passenger vehicles, including major components of the engine like the emission control components. The OBD alerts you when there is a defect that could cause excess pollution. It also helps mechanics identify the cause of performance problems, so they can provide the proper repair service.
